CHAMBER MUSIC COURSE

Festival of Chapels chamber music course, established in 2020, is for young people with a love of music who wish to expand their musical experiences, whilst absorbing the beauty of their surroundings. The course is open to 20 students, both string and woodwind players. Participants will play a wide range of chamber music in anticipation of the final concert as well as perform their own choice solo in the Chapels.

We are delighted to run this course in Blatten bei Naters and Binn, Valais, and look forward to you joining us in the breathtaking Swiss Alps.

COURSE PROGRAMME

Course outline, dates and cost

Our repertoire for 2022 included works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Amy Beach, Giovanni Gabrieli, Sergei Prokofiev, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, César Cui, Arnold Bax, François Devienne, Tchaikovsky and Gerald Finzi. For the Solo performances, which are an essential ingredient of the course, students played music of Bach, Telemann, Debussy, Ysaÿe and Isang Yun in the small mountain chapels for which Binntal is famous. We will pursue the same aim in 2023 of reading as much music as possible as we build towards the final concert

A typical day saw students rehearse for around 5 hours, with time to explore the sensational mountain scenery in-between sessions.
Rehearsals were interwoven with Stretching exercise classes and keep fit, whilst entertainment ranged from badminton and table tennis to table football, as well as lounge areas where the students could relax and unwind  One to one coaching will be available for those who wish it.

Looking forward to 2023, we will house once again and rehearse in the village of Blatten bei Naters, where Festival of Chapels has the exclusive use of a large secure house, with room for rehearsals as well as all our community activities.

Once again we will perform impromptu concerts in the chapels, and the final concert will be held on the last Friday, 28th July, in the Pfarrkirche, Binn
